ConnectEd: The California Center for College and Career

In 2006, The James Irvine Foundation asked MPR Associates to help found ConnectEd. This new nonprofit organization is dedicated to helping young people prepare for college and career, both objectives and not just one or the other. ConnectEd serves as a hub for innovative practice, policy, and research to promote multiple pathways—comprehensive programs of academic and technical study organized around such fields as business and finance, biomedical and health sciences, architecture and engineering, and arts, media, and entertainment, to name just a few. MPR's depth of experience in integrating academics with career and technical education provided a strong foundation for building ConnectEd and quickly turning it into an effective force for change.

MPR and ConnectEd are separate, independent organizations with no legal affiliation. However, the two organizations share office space in Berkeley and MPR continues to provide ConnectEd with various types of support. The two organizations also collaborate frequently on projects, particularly those using web-based technology. Visit ConnectEd's website.

The Institute for the Study of Family, Work, and Community (IFWC)

MPR conducts some of its work through its nonprofit affiliate, the Institute for the Study of Family, Work, and Community. IFWC conducts research and policy analyses on a wide range of issues affecting families, the workplace, and community life. Recent projects have included an evaluation of after-school reading initiatives, a study of workforce preparation in community colleges, and the development of multimedia curriculum.
